Summit 2015 – The Super Workout

I attended an event called the Beachbody Coach Summit in Nashville in July 2015. I learned SO much and had an incredible time! I’ll be sharing the story of my weekend in pieces. The following is just one of the many stories from my weekend at Summit.

The Super Workout

The one part of Summit that I was looking forward to the most was the Super Workout. We took over SIX BLOCKS of Broadway in Downtown Nashville at 6:00 am on Saturday. We had HUGE screens at each intersection just so we could all see what was happening on stage. All five trainers came out, one by one, and led all 20,000+ of us through a short workout in their style. The entire event was 90 minutes long, and we were all dripping in sweat when it ended. Best. Workout. Ever!

To truly understand what I’m about to share about the Super Workout, we have to back up to the night before. In the picture above, that’s my Coach friend Beverly, me, and my Coach friend Jenn after the workout. Beverly is the brave one among us. She competed in the Beachbody Classic, a physique contest where you show off all the toned muscle you’ve worked so hard building. She had done five back-to-back rounds of 21 Day Fix Extreme to prepare for the competition, and she had eliminated all treats for weeks. After appearing on stage Friday night – and totally rocking her bikini – she needed an ice cream fix! She had a double scoop of mint chocolate chip; I had a single scoop of no sugar added caramel turtle ice cream to show my support. Jenn passed on the ice cream and stuck to healthy snacks. She had more strength than me!

For Beverly and me, this was our first real ice cream eaten in weeks! Neither of us eat much dairy other than Greek yogurt on occasion. Do you know what happens when you eat ice cream and your stomach hasn’t seen it in weeks? You get gassy. Very, very gassy!

All three of us crawled out of bed with about 3 hours of sleep for the second night in a row, just to be able to make it into Downtown Nashville in time to stake out our spots for the Super Workout at 6:00am. Beverly and I were bloated – and, shall we say, “deflating” periodically – before we even left the hotel. I felt better by the time we met up with the rest of our team, but I wasn’t over my ice cream induced problems!

Should you ever find yourself bloated and gassy, please take it as a reason to workout at home. Alone. Not with 20,000 of your closest friends!

Speaking of friends, there were about 20 of us all connected through my Coach, Joe, who attended the Super Workout. We’re the group in blue beside the Bridgestone Arena.

I purposely placed myself at least 8 feet away from anyone else in blue for two reasons. One, I knew I wanted to turn around to take pictures of my teammates. Two, I knew I wasn’t done being gassy and moving around was going to cause more gas to find its way out of me. I was really regretting that ice cream! That is until …

This random girl wedged herself in my armpit! She showed up right before the workout started. The people in my area could already reach out and touch each other. Then this girl wedged herself into the square formed by me and three others. She was practically IN my left armpit! I could have easily reached over and poked her. But I didn’t!

Instead, I made her regret being in my bubble in the quietest, most horrible way I could in the moment. Every time I knew that I had more gas coming out, I “accidentally” moved closer to her. I’d pass gas right under her nose, then quickly edge back into my spot!

I know it was a horrible thing to do! I couldn’t help myself from giggling quietly every time I did it to her! She was invading my bubble! I didn’t want to be mean, but I didn’t want to make it a pleasant experience for her since having her so very close was unpleasant for me. I’m just not comfortable with “I can feel you breathing on my shoulder” close – especially while exercising next to a stranger! Does this make me a horrible person??

In spite of the close quarters, I absolutely LOVED the Super Workout. It was worth the lack of sleep just to be a part of such an amazing event! I can’t wait to go again next year! YOU should go with me!

In retrospect, I do regret my actions toward the girl with no sense of personal space. Passing gas right next to someone a half dozen times just isn’t a very nice thing to do! For the sake of my friends and the love of clean air, I hereby solemnly swear that I will NOT partake of ice cream during Summit next year! Unless I decide I need to “load up the tank” in preparation for having another person decide to workout two feet away from me…

I also was able to attend two smaller workouts during Summit. On Thursday, I did 21 Day Fix Extreme with Autumn, and on Friday, I did a T25 – Max:30 hybrid with Shaun T. Summit was an AWESOME event!! You should join my team of Coaches and go with us next summer!
