Summit 2015 – Workout with Shaun T

I attended an event called the Beachbody Coach Summit in Nashville in July 2015. I learned SO much and had an incredible time! I’ll be sharing the story of my weekend in pieces. The following is just one of the many stories from my weekend at Summit.

Live Workout with Shaun T

When it comes to workouts, my first love is Shaun T and Focus T25. It was the first workout I ever did that I actually liked! I could get a great workout at home – no nasty gym germs to avoid – and the “get in, get it done, and get on with life” style was something I could do without feeling guilty for taking the time to go exercise.

We got to choose two workouts to attend at Coach Summit 2015, so I knew one of my choices had to be Shaun T. I didn’t care what workout he was leading – T25, Insanity, Cize – I had to be there!

I signed up for Insanity Max:30 in the second workout time on Friday morning. I had never tried Max:30, but I had to spend some time with Shaun T!

When we arrived, my Coach friend Jenn went to one workout room to exercise with Chalene. My Coach friend Beverly and I joined the line for Shaun T. It was CRAZY long! It went all through the designated queue, through rows across the back of the waiting room, and into rows in the middle of the room. We were with the group in the middle of the room.

The first workout of the morning ran late due to technical difficulties. Our line finally started filing into the workout room about 7:20 am – a good five minutes after we were scheduled to start. Everyone in the designated queue went in. Everyone in the rows across the back of the room went in. Then we stopped. Something had gone wrong! Computer glitch? Doorman not checking wristbands? Either way, they had to cut us off because they could not physically fit anyone else into the room!

Talk about disappointed!!

We were told we could sneak into Chalene’s workout, but by then it was super crowded in there, too. Beverly and I hung out in the hallway outside of the workout rooms to wait for Jenn. When the crowd of disappointed Shaun T fans shrank, a couple of very nice workers opened the hallway doors into the Max:30 workout room so that we could at least get pictures. I waited patiently for a turn, and by the time I got to the door, they had decided that they could let a couple of us at a time slip along the wall to get closer pictures. Yay!!

We tried to look on the bright side. At least we were able to get a few pictures! Plus, we wouldn’t have to spend the whole day sweaty and sticky! But I have to admit, I was sad and disappointed. Fortunately, that feeling didn’t last long.

Between speakers in our morning session, they announced that Shaun T had agreed to do a “make good” workout for those of us who got left out that morning. Yay!! It was scheduled at 5:30. Boo!! That was during the time Beverly had to be getting ready for the Beachbody Classic, the physique contest to show off all the lean, toned muscle you’ve built. Beverly definitely couldn’t go to the workout, but I was torn. I wanted to see her rock her bikini on stage, but I really really wanted to go workout with Shaun T! Then it hit me – I could do both!

The make up workout was scheduled to start at 5:30 pm, and Shaun T was offering a T25 / Max:30 blend workout – 30 minutes max! It would end about 6:00 pm – the time the Classic would actually be starting. I could make it to both!

That afternoon, Beverly and Jenn headed over to the Classic, and I changed back into my workout clothes and headed back to the workout room. They had you sign in, and you had to tell them what had happened that morning. If they believed your story, you got in. Since I was 100% telling the truth, they let me in easily! Yay!!

Workouts are always more fun with friends, and I made a new one while we waited to start. Renee to my left had changed her plans and left her Coach friends behind for the chance to workout with Shaun T, too. Yay for new friends and workout buddies!!

About 200 people were left out that morning, but of course not all could make it that afternoon. It ended up being just Shaun T, his stage crew, and about 150 of us in the room! AWESOME!! That’s SO much better than the overcrowded morning workout would have been!

When it was time to start, Shaun made us all get quiet. He had lost his voice! He whispered into the microphone and explained that Danielle, aka Fit and Funky, would be his voice for the workout. You’d think this would be a bad thing. Oh no! Shaun told Danielle what to have us do next either by example or hand signals. She led the workout, which left Shaun free to roam the room.

Everyone in the workout had to give it EVERYTHING because you never knew when Shaun T would suddenly appear right beside you! You think it’s motivating when he’s telling you to “dig deeper” from the TV? Try having him IN the room with you! Even though he had no voice, he would whisper “Go! Push!” and give out high fives. I got high fives from Shaun T!! Best. Workout. Ever!!

After the workout, Shaun had us all get quiet again and gather at the stage. He spoke to us in whispers, but we could all hear him through the microphone. You could tell that he really cared! He wants us to do our best, to be our best. I don’t remember any of the exact words he said, but I’ll never forget the feeling of knowing that he actually cares if we succeed or fail. He teared up while talking to us, and half the room teared up with him. Yes, including me – I almost cried!

STonstage

LOVE me some Shaun T!! I left the workout feeling amazing and bolted across the street to the Classic. I did miss the very beginning, but I managed to make it in time to see Beverly in the group on stage. She didn’t make the top ten, but she did rock that bikini! My Friday had a rocky start, but I would not trade how it worked out for anything.

My Thursday workout was with Autumn of 21 Day Fix fame. I also got to workout with all five trainers and 20,000 people at the Super Workout on Saturday. Summit was an amazing experience!! YOU should join my team of Coaches and go with us next summer!!
